Washer and Dryer

The other reason for the 230 volt power system was to select the most efficient washer and dryer combo I could stand to afford. They are made by Blomberg, which is actually a sub-brand of Arçelik A.Ş., a Turkish appliance company.

The dryer is clever – it’s basically a fancy dehumidifier. The heat pump vents it’s hot side into the drum, and the cold side extracts and condenses the moisture laden hot air from the drum, then recycles back into the drum for reheating. This way hot air doesn’t get pushed into the living space, and the only output from the dryer is a condensate line for the water extracted.

The dryer uses about 750 – 800 watts of power while running, and takes about 45 minutes to an hour for a cycle.

The washer spins at super high speed and extracts maximum water from the load, and is relatively sparing on water. It was a bit of a bear to get the washer and dryer loaded into the bus.
